A Moroccan sedari gets intensive use: every day, with family and guests. That is why the fabric determines how long your salon stays looking good. In this article you will read how to choose the right sedari fabric for your sedari sofa, what to look out for when measuring and how to combine colours. All the fabrics mentioned can be found in our sedari fabrics collection, available by the metre.
Which sedari fabric suits your salon?
In the BLADI sedari collection you will find velvet, Holland velvet, chenille, bouclé, corduroy, coarse woven fabrics such as MIXY and GABO, linen look and suede look. Each fabric family gives your salon a different character.
Velvet for a rich, classic salon
Tiffany velvet with sheen is a soft velvet with a subtle sheen, made of 100% polyester, about 145 cm wide and available in more than 30 colours, from cream and gold to petrol, burgundy and black. The fabric is in the 50,000+ Martindale class (intensive) and is washable at 30 °C. Looking for a striking pattern? Velvet Skali Marble Gold is a strong choice: a velvet with a marble pattern, 380 g/m², 145 cm wide and more than 50,000 Martindale rubs, in eight shades. If you prefer a clean rhythm, there is the sister version Skali stripes Gold.
Chenille and bouclé for warm seating comfort
Chenille feels warm and luxurious. Chenille upholstery fabric Dubai collection C weighs 600 g/m², is 140 cm wide (at least 138 cm usable) and reaches 100,000+ Martindale (very intensive). It comes on rolls of 40 to 50 metres and each shade has its own colour code: DBC-1 white, DBC-2 taupe and DBC-3 dark taupe. This makes it easy to reorder later, which is handy if you are covering a complete salon in the same fabric. The collection also includes Chenille plain, ribbed and Fancy Chenille, the other Dubai shades and bouclé chenille such as WAVE, URBAN, NECTAR and VERZACE.
Coarse woven and suede look for the family
If you have children or pets, take a look at MIXY Coarse Woven. This pet-friendly chenille blend (95% PES, 5% CO) weighs 500 g/m², is 140 cm wide and reaches 100,000+ Martindale. The coarse woven pattern naturally hides small irregularities. Prefer a soft suede look? Sahara is a water-repellent upholstery fabric with an Alcantara look, 520 g/m², 140 cm wide and more than 35,000 Martindale, in taupe, grey, beige and brown. Spills therefore do not soak straight into the fabric.
Martindale: how hard-wearing should sedari fabric be?
The Martindale value shows how many abrasion rubs a fabric can withstand. The higher the number, the better the fabric copes with intensive use, which matters especially for the seat of a sedari. Values vary across the collection: Sahara reaches more than 35,000 rubs, Skali Marble Gold more than 50,000, and MIXY and Dubai C are in the highest class of 100,000+. A practical tip: choose a hard-wearing fabric for the seat and use a striking pattern for the back cushions or scatter cushions. That way you combine strength with a festive look.
Measuring your sedari: working out the quantity
Every sedari is different, so there is no standard size. Measure the seat and back cushions yourself: the length, width and depth of each cushion. Include the scatter cushions and any side panels as well. Bear in mind the roll width of the fabric you choose: the fabrics in this article are 140 or 145 cm wide. If you choose velvet, cut all pieces in the same pile direction; this prevents differences in colour and sheen.
Not sure about the quantity? Send us your measurements or a photo via WhatsApp and we will help you work it out.
Combining colours and ordering samples
A sedari lends itself well to combinations. For example, cover the sofa in Skali Marble Gold and the cushions in a plain Tiffany shade, or within the Dubai C range use white on the seat and dark taupe on the back. This keeps the whole look calm and harmonious.
Colours can look different on screen. As a private customer you receive free samples and only pay the postage: request them via the sample button on the fabric's product page.
