Vintage and retro upholstery fabrics

The collection consists of two families. The gobelin fabrics (ARKI, SAMOS, SIROS, DELOS, MILO, Andros, CEA and LEVITA) are jacquard-woven: the motif is in the weave itself rather than printed on, so the pattern does not wear off. You will also find vintage faux leather: Skai Arizona with a natural grain and antique patina, and the supple, sturdy Skai Boston.

Consider reupholstering armchairs and dining room chairs from the fifties to the seventies, pouffes, footstools, decorative cushions and wall panels. This fabric is also suitable for smaller projects such as bags, covers and stools, because gobelin is sturdy enough to keep its shape.

• Pattern repeat: with a woven-in motif, the pattern repeats. Allow extra metres if you want to centre the motif or have it run continuously.
• Scale of the motif: a large motif shows to better effect on a sofa or chair back than on a narrow chair seat.
• Combining: gobelin looks best next to a plain fabric, for example on the sides or the back.
• Order in one go: fabrics from different production batches may differ slightly in colour.

First, determine the look you are going for. Gobelin fabric provides a classic, detailed look with woven motifs. Vintage faux leather offers a rugged, nostalgic feel and is easier to keep clean. Then, consider how the piece of furniture will be used: a dining chair used every day requires different qualities than a decorative armchair or an ottoman.

Measure the piece of furniture and add a seam allowance. With gobelin, you will quickly need more fabric for a large motif; with faux leather, pay attention to the roll width of 138 to 140 cm. Feel free to send your measurements via WhatsApp, and we will calculate the required yardage with you.

• Skai Arizona: PU synthetic leather with a natural grain and antique patina, 1.2 mm thick, Martindale of at least 100,000, roll width 138 to 140 cm.
• Skai Boston: 1.2 mm PVC synthetic leather and 590 g/m², supple and sturdy, 140 cm wide, 100,000 Martindale, available in 8 colors.

Choose based on usage:

• Dining chairs: synthetic leather for intensive use, gobelin for a classic seat.
• Armchairs and ottomans: gobelin for character, Arizona for an authentic vintage look.
• Cushions and wall panels: gobelin, because of the woven pattern.
• Hospitality and projects: Arizona or Boston due to the high wear resistance.

When reupholstering older chairs and armchairs, the finishing touches make all the difference. With upholstery nails, you can add a classic edge to an upholstered seat or backrest. New furniture legs can also give an old piece of furniture a completely new look.

With faux leather, test how the material stretches on a scrap piece first, and with tapestry fabric, check how the edges behave. This ensures the result will be taut and professional.
