Machine needles and hand needles
- Schmetz machine needles: per 5 or 10, in Universal, Jersey, Jeans and Gold Jeans, Leather and Leather DH, Microtex, Topstitch and Gold Topstitch, Overlock, Ballpoint, Quilting, Combi Basic Stretch, Black Super Stretch and self-threading needles, in sizes 60 to 120.
- Prym hand needles: leather needles, crewel needles, embroidery needles, darning needles and smyrna needles.
- For upholstery: Prym upholstery needles and mattress needles, for working through thick layers of foam and upholstery fabric or setting buttons through a cushion.
Choose the needle according to fabric and thickness. A lower number (60 to 80) is for fine and thin fabrics, a higher number (100 to 120) for thick fabrics such as denim, canvas and upholstery fabric. For jersey use a jersey or stretch needle; for leather and faux leather, a leather needle with a cutting point.
Tip: replace your machine needle regularly. A blunt needle causes skipped stitches and pulls threads in the fabric.
