Want to cover a wall with fabric? The right wall covering fabric gives a room texture, warmth and a luxurious look. At Bladi you can buy interior fabrics by the metre, along with the materials to make your own fabric wall panels: fiberfill, glue, staples and hook-and-loop tape.
Which fabric should you choose for a wall covering?
In our interior fabrics collection you buy fabric by the metre, such as velour and velvet, chenille, bouclé, corduroy, coarse weaves and linen-look fabrics. Velvet, chenille, gobelin, jacquard, linen look and ottoman all work well on a wall.
- Woven-in pattern: choose our gobelin fabrics for a classic, rich look. All our gobelin fabrics are 140 cm wide.
- Clean and modern: choose velvet or linen look.
- Soft, quilted look: choose quilted fabric if you do not want to apply fiberfill yourself.
With patterned fabrics, pay close attention to the pattern repeat, especially on larger areas. That way the pattern runs on neatly.
Materials for fabric wall panels
For fabric wall panels you need a sturdy base, such as MDF boards of about 18 mm. You will also need:
- Fiberfill: for a soft, padded look and more volume. You will find it in cloths and fiberfill, by the metre or by the roll.
- Spray adhesive and contact adhesive: spray adhesive to stick the fiberfill to the board, contact adhesive to fix the boards to the wall. See our glue and spray adhesive.
- Staple gun and staples: to fix the fabric tightly to the back of the board. See staple gun and staples.
- Hook-and-loop tape: a flexible, less permanent fixing for lighter boards. See hook-and-loop tape.
The method in brief
- Cut the MDF boards to fit the wall.
- Stick the fiberfill to the board with spray adhesive.
- Stretch the fabric over the board and staple it at the back. Start in the middle and work towards the edges to avoid creases.
- Fix the boards with contact adhesive or hook-and-loop tape.

Frequently asked questions about fabric wall coverings
Which fabric is suitable for a wall covering?
You can use velvet, chenille, gobelin, jacquard, linen look or ottoman, among others. Choose a fabric with a woven-in pattern for a classic look or a plain fabric for a calm wall.
How do you fix fabric wall panels to the wall?
For a strong, permanent fixing, use contact adhesive. For a flexible, less permanent solution, choose hook-and-loop tape; this is especially handy with lighter MDF boards.
Can I also make a wall hanging from fabric?
Yes. Give the fabric a channel at the top and bottom, slide a rod through and hang the wall hanging on a nail or hook.
