Hook-and-loop tape – small and bulk quantities

How to choose the right Velcro

Velcro consists of two parts: the hook side and the loop side. If you press them together, they hook into each other and the connection closes. If you pull them apart, you can close them again. At BLADI, you will find Velcro as hook and loop in black and white, 20 mm wide, plus black Velcro circles with a diameter of 21 mm. This gives you a suitable solution for many small and medium-sized jobs.

Pay attention to these points when choosing:

  • Color: choose white for light fabric and black for dark fabric, so that the strip is as inconspicuous as possible.
  • Width: the strip is 20 mm wide. That is wide enough for a sturdy fastening and narrow enough for clothing, bags, and curtains.
  • Length: choose 1 meter for a small job, 10 meters for multiple applications, or a 25-meter roll if you use Velcro a lot or regularly.
  • Shape: for small attachment points, the ø21 mm circles are more convenient than a long strip.

Are you unsure about the quantity? Measure the length of the fastening and add a few centimeters for overlap. Velcro is easy to cut to size, so you can use any leftovers later for a next job.

Attaching Velcro: sewing or gluing

How you attach Velcro depends on the material you are using it on.

  • On fabric: sew the strip all the way around with a sturdy stitch. Use sewing thread that matches your fabric and sew the hook side onto one part and the loop side onto the other.
  • On wood, plastic, or leather: attach the Velcro with a suitable adhesive. In our collection of glue and spray adhesive, you will find options for various materials.

Cut the Velcro with sharp scissors for a clean edge that is less likely to fray. You can find a good choice in our scissors collection. If you are working with thick fabric or multiple layers, choose a needle suitable for the task and sew slowly to prevent the needle from breaking.

If you are using the ø21 mm dots, always place a hook dot opposite a loop dot. This allows you to attach small items exactly where you want them and remove them later without causing any damage.

Applications and maintenance of Velcro

Hook-and-loop fastener is versatile and suitable for the home, the office, and the workshop. Common applications include:

  • organizing and bundling cables;
  • keeping tools or other loose items together;
  • attaching decorations and other lightweight materials;
  • creating closures for clothing, bags, and curtains;
  • clothing adjustments and repairs;
  • temporarily securing items, for example during a craft project.

Because hook-and-loop fastener is reusable, you can open and close it repeatedly. With frequent use, the hook side can become filled with lint and threads. Remove these occasionally with a needle or a fine brush to keep the fastener gripping well. Close hook-and-loop fasteners on clothing before washing so that the hooks do not damage other fabrics.

Are you making more than just a closure, such as a fabric item that you are finishing yourself? Then you will also find elastic and other haberdashery with us to complete your project.
