Outdoor upholstery fabric for garden and boat

Outdoor faux leather like Skai Primera, Montana, RIF and AMALFI wipe clean with a damp cloth. That makes it the logical choice for boat cushions, patio benches and catering, where a lot of spills occur. Woven outdoor fabric such as SUNLIGHT breathes better and feels more textile-like, which is more comfortable for prolonged use on a lounge set or in a veranda.

• Wipe the fabric regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap; avoid harsh cleaners and solvents.
• After a rain shower, let cushions dry standing upright, so that no moisture remains in the filling.
• Store cushions in a dry place in winter or use a breathable cover; airtight plastic actually encourages mould.
• Even UV-resistant fabrics last longer when the furniture stands in the shade in the afternoon.

Start with the location where the furniture will be placed. A covered patio or veranda has different requirements than an open deck, a boat, or a hospitality terrace in full sun. Also, consider the frequency and intensity of use: a lounge set in a private garden is subjected to different wear and tear than chairs in a busy restaurant.

Compare fabrics on three points: durability (the Martindale rating), protection against sun and moisture, and how the fabric feels. If the furniture is in direct sunlight, pay extra attention to UV resistance; if cushions get wet often, choose a water-repellent fabric or removable covers. Still unsure? This is the difference between the fabrics in this collection:

• SUNLIGHT: woven outdoor fabric made of 100% olefin, water-repellent, with Easy Clean treatment and UV-resistant. Martindale 40,000 to 50,000. For lounge sets, boat cushions, caravans, and terraces.
• AMALFI: heavy-duty PVC artificial leather of approximately 650 g/m² and 1.1 mm thick, water-repellent and resistant to moisture and UV light. For boats, campers, and the hospitality industry.
• RIF: supple and soft PU artificial leather (100% polyurethane, 540 g/m²) with a Martindale of +150,000, 140 cm wide.
• Skai Primera and Montana: scratch-resistant artificial leather. Primera is 100% polyester with a coarse texture and 140 cm wide.

Choose based on usage:

• Lounge cushions and garden benches: SUNLIGHT for seating comfort, artificial leather if you primarily want convenience.
• Boat and camper: AMALFI or SUNLIGHT, both developed for these applications.
• Hospitality: a fabric with high abrasion resistance that you can wipe clean quickly, such as AMALFI or Skai Primera.

Measure each cushion for length, width, and thickness and add seam allowance to the dimensions. Because the rolls are 140 cm wide, the width determines how many sections you can cut side-by-side from the fabric. A zippered cover makes the cushion easy to remove and maintain; you can find zippers and thread in our zippers and sewing thread collections.

Choose a filling that retains little moisture and let the cover dry thoroughly after a rain shower before storing the cushion. This will keep the fabric looking good for longer and prevent mold in the filling.
