Fabric scissors and sewing scissors

Fabric scissors

For a tailor or upholsterer, good fabric scissors are indispensable! The difference from ordinary scissors is that fabric scissors have an extra-sharp cutting edge. They go through fabric like a hot knife through butter. As a general rule: the larger the scissors, the heavier the fabric you can cut. If you work with fabric regularly, fabric scissors are one of the best purchases you can make. Good tools make the job a lot easier, so don't skimp on them!

Embroidery scissors for fabric

Different applications call for their own specific scissors. For fine work we stock small scissors, such as the 12.7 cm single-ring scissors. They cut thread extremely cleanly. If you use ordinary scissors, you will see it straight away at the end of the thread. It will fray quickly, making it harder to thread it through the eye of needles. Small, sharp scissors are a real help here and work quickly and comfortably.

Fabric scissors for textiles

Fabric scissors are actually suitable for most types of textile. However, we recommend using larger scissors for heavy fabrics such as denim or velour than for finely woven cotton. The blades are then longer and heavier. If you cut fabrics that are too thick with scissors that are too small, you risk damaging your tools.

Please note Use your fabric scissors only for textiles! The blades glide perfectly over each other; if the scissors are used for other materials, the blades will go blunt more quickly.

Tailor's scissors

With special fabric scissors, like the ones tailors use, you don't need to apply much force. Cutting is almost effortless with a good pair of scissors. Applying too much force can even be counterproductive, especially if there is no material between the blades. The scissors could cut into themselves, leaving a nick in the blade. And damaged scissors leave snags in the fabric, which does not help the finish. With high-quality fabric scissors you are a professional tailor in the making!

Fabric scissors for furniture

Furniture is upholstered, which means you also use fabric scissors when working on furniture. Upholstery fabrics are generally somewhat heavier than fabrics used for clothing. That is why the scissors are often of a heavier quality too, just like the sewing thread. For upholstery fabric, choose large scissors of about 24 cm. Buy fabric scissors

At Bladi Shop you can also buy fabric scissors for left-handed people. When you apply cutting force, the blades are pressed together. Are you left-handed and using scissors for right-handed people? Then the blades are pushed apart, and vice versa. That way you cannot cut fabric properly. Buying fabric scissors for the right hand is therefore recommended. Order easily in our online shop.
